US Assistant Secretary Visited Caála District

June 2, 2007 - US Assistant Secretary for African Affairs, Jendayi Frazer, left Saturday morning to Caála, 23 kilometers east of Huambo city, as part of a two-day working visit to central Huambo province.

Jendayi Frazer who was being accompanied by US Ambassador to Angola and by the Angolan Ambassador to that country, Cynthia Efird and Josefina Pitra Diakite, respectively, assessed the state of execution of Juvenile Jango project (recreational centre for youth), funded by her country, through the US Agency for International Development (USAID) and by Angola Foment Bank (BFA).

USAID and BFA earmark every year, for three years, USD 834,269 for assisting the five "Jangos" set up in the provinces of Huambo, Luanda, Cabinda, Cuenene and Huíla, while USD 166,000 is channeled to Caála centre.

Caala district youth’s centre was officially inaugurated in February 2007 but has been operating since September 2006. The choice for implementing the centre at Caála locality was made in coordination with government of central Huambo province in order to enable youths to gather for learning and enjoying recreational activities.

Caála Youth Centre works in partnership with the local non-governmental organization, ADESPOV, and benefits from technical training provided by the Population Services International (PSI).
