26/07/2011: U.S. wants to promote academic cooperation with Agostinho Neto University

Luanda - The Agostinho Neto University (UAN) and its counterpart in Houston are working to open in the short term, a course of oil in the Faculty of Engineering, said, in Luanda, its president Orlando da Mata.

According to Orlando da Mata, who advanced the information after the meeting with the U.S. Ambassador to Angola, Christopher J. McMullen, UAN has been building closer ties with U.S. academic institutions.

“The UAN is working with the University of Houston to create a course in oil engineering at the Faculty of Agostinho Neto University,” said the dean, adding that the meeting with the ambassador served to evaluate the cooperation between Angola and US educational institutions.

He added that once implemented the project, the course may progress to the creation of an oil faculty at the Agostinho Neto University. In the framework of cooperation, UAN signed a memorandum with the Center for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta, for the implementation of a master's program, with the partnership of the Angolan Ministry of Health.

In turn, the U.S. Ambassador, Christopher J. McCullen said his government is committed to the establishment of expanded its partnership with Angola, taking into account the interest of both countries.

“It has been often the deployment of Angolan students to U.S., said Ambassador McMullen U.S. authorities are interested to cooperate, so your government wants to further streamline this partnership in order to foster cooperation”, said.
